Fall Maintenance Series #1: Plan for Snow and Ice Control

We know, we know. Nobody wants to think about snow and ice in the fall. That sounds like a winter problem, right?
WRONG!
Let’s face it… we live in Erie, PA where the average snowfall is over 100” through the winter season. Let us not forget “Snowmageddon,” aka Christmas of 2017, with a one-day snowfall total of almost 22”!
“But Christmas is over three months away!”
Yes, but let’s put that into perspective. The first snowfall usually hits sometime around Halloween. That means there’s only six weeks until the first possible snowfall, and it doesn’t take long to pick up after that!
We all know that snow and ice create hazardous conditions, whether it be at our own home (driveways and sidewalks), on the road, or at a place of business. In addition to causing slips, trips, falls, car accidents, and other injuries, snow and ice can damage roofs, walkways, driveways, roads, and other structures. If we’re not careful, those little cracks in the driveway fill with water and continue to freeze and thaw over the winter months, expanding cracks into potholes, which means more maintenance and costly repairs!
Planning ahead is essential, especially for a typical Erie winter. Next time you’re at Walmart, grab supplies such as salt and shovels—maybe gloves and handwarmers—you’ll thank yourself when that first snow hits. If you plan on taking matters into your own hands this year, consider investing in equipment such as a snowblower or plow for an existing lawnmower, tractor, or ATV. If time or health are possible barriers to maintaining the snow and ice on your property (or if you just hate the cold and prefer to watch the snowfall from the comfort of your warm, cozy bed), you may consider finding a snow removal company that can assist in maintaining your driveway and sidewalks to give you peace of mind for your own safety and that of your guests, employees, customers, etc.
Here at Lake Effect Property Solutions, we do offer snow removal and ice control services for both residential and commercial clients. We offer both seasonal and “per plow” rates based upon client needs.
